Q: How did you discover the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation and what attracted you to it?
A: I heard about it during my freshman year of college from friends who were in it. The opportunity that it offered such as the co-op and a confirmed job as well as helping to build my resume is what drew me to the Foundation.
Q: How did you know the program was the right fit for you?
A: This program gave me a chance to solidify a path in life.
Q: What was top of mind when considering the program?
A: The opportunities and tuition assistance offered.
Q: What is your favorite thing about UMPPF?
A: Jen and Carrie. Also, I really enjoy the many seminars we have because it helps show me what else there is in the pulp and paper industry and they teach life skills that other classes don’t.
Q: What do you think are common misconceptions about the industry that you were surprised to learn weren’t true?
A: People think that it is dying, but it very much so isn’t!
Q: Describe your co-op experience.
A: At my co-op, I had the chance to do a lot of work around the paper mill at Greif Inc. in Fitchburg, MA. I worked on optimizing our board as well as the on-site water system.
Q: If one of your friends were considering UMPPF, what would you tell them?
A: I’d tell them to join it because it gives some chances of a lifetime and that they can become the future of the pulp and paper industry.
Q: How do you feel about your future in the industry?
A: I have a feeling it is on the up-and-up and won’t be going anywhere any time soon since it’s so integral to everyday life.
